Charles “Toys R Us” Lazarus

October 05 1923 - March 22 2018
D.C | Washington

An American entrepreneur, executive, and innovator within the retail toy industry. Lazarus founded the Toys "R" Us retail chain, which evolved from a children's furniture store he originally opened in Washington D.C. in 1948. Toys R Us became a staple in every kids childhood growing up in the 80’s. I can vividly remember all those exciting trips to pick out whatever special toy I wanted with my grandma... it was heaven on earth for a kid.
Charles was a father to two daughters and was married 3 times.
Charles Lazarus, a resident of Manhattan, died of respiratory failure at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City on March 22, 2018, at the age of 94. Lazarus' death occurred just one day before Toys "R" Us began liquidation sales in the United States. He will be missed.
